FAQ
GeneralHow do I create a shortcut to a program? There are many ways to do this. Here is one of it:
How can I determine whether the Microsoft® Visual Basic® 6.0 run-time files are installed on my computer ?Open your Windows System directory (e.g. c:\Windows\System or c:\Windows\System32). If there is a file named msvbvm60.dll, the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 run-time files are installed on your computer. How can I determine whether Microsoft® Windows® Installer is installed on my computer?Open your Windows System directory (e.g. c:\Windows\System or c:\Windows\System32). If there is a file named msiexec.exe, Microsoft Windows Installer is installed on your computer. How can I determine the version number of Microsoft® Windows® Installer?
The Windows Installer message box displays the version number. If this command displays the message that "msiexec"' was not found, Windows® Installer is not installed on your system.
A.F.5 Rename your filesWhy can I only add about 400 files to the file list using the Open dialog box? When you add files to the file list via the Open dialog box, the program requires memory space to store the selected filenames. The size of the filename buffer is by default 8192 bytes. This allows you to add about 400 files at the same time. If this is not enough for your requirements, you can define the size of the filename buffer with an entry in the Registry. You can find a detailed description of the requires steps in the A.F.5 help file under the topic A.F.5 Options - Adjust the filename buffer. When you use Drag & Drop to add files to the file list, the restriction with the filename buffer does not exist. This way you should be able to add thousands of files to the file list.
How can I use a text file to import filenames into A.F.5?To import filenames from a file, you need to create a plain text file, using a simple text editor (e.g. notepad.exe) , that contains a filename in every line. You can download an example file here:
How can I sort the files in the file list by Date Picture Taken (Author, Artist, ...)?The A.F.5 file list lets you sort files by standard file attributes (Creation Date, Modification Date, Size, ...) only. If you want to rename your files sorted by Date Picture Taken (or any other available file property), you can use the following method:
If you use the first selected file to perform the Drag & Drop operation, the sorting order from Windows Explorer is preserved. This works also with the results from a file search.
A.F.6 Split your filesDo I get several movie files (documents, pictures, ...) when splitting a movie file in several parts? No, you just get several parts of one movie file. These parts are not movie files and cannot be viewed with a movie player. The split parts of a file are useless with most file formats. To make use of split files, you first need to re-merge them in their correct order (e.g. with A.F.7 Merge your files).
How can I split a movie file in several movie files? You need a video editing software that supports the desired movie file format.
A.F.7 Merge your filesCan I merge several movie files (documents, pictures, ...) to a single movie file? No, just copying several movie files into one single file does not create a movie file that contains the video and audio of all input files. The same applies to most other file formats. With together copied files frequently only data of the first input file is recognized and the following bytes are ignored.
How can I merge several movie files to a single movie file? You need a video editing software that supports the desired movie file format.
