Information about Microsoft® Windows® Installer

Windows® Installer is a software from Microsoft® that provides an efficient and safe technology to install, repair, and uninstall applications under the Microsoft® Windows® operating system.

Microsoft® Windows® Installer ships as a part of Microsoft® Windows® XP, Windows® 2000, and Windows® Me. It is provided via a service pack to Microsoft® Windows® 95, Windows® 98, and Windows NT® version 4.0.

Tip

To find out if Windows® Installer is already installed on your system

  1. On the Start menu, click Run.
  2. In the Open box type "msiexec".
  3. Click OK.

If this command displays a message box from Windows® Installer telling about an invalid command-line parameter, Windows Installer is already installed on your system. This message box also displays the version number of Windows® Installer.

If this command displays the message that "msiexec"' was not found, Windows® Installer is not installed on your system.
